The nature of soils formed at different times in Mars history may record different trace element signatures; using available data, including terrestrial analog data, possible soil signatures that could be used to identify the origin of different soils are presently calculated. It is found that Martian soil contains a high proportion of siderophile elements relative to the SNC meteorites.
