Pulinets2 1Institute of Space Science, National Central University, Taiwan 2 Russian Academy of Science, Russia It has been know that the mid-latitude electron density enhancement (MEDE) occur at various local times, seasons, and geomagnetic latitudes depending on longitude. To quantitatively examine the MEDE, we define the MEDE to be the electron density enhancement occurring in the middle latitudes and the tropical-latitude electron density trough (TEDT) to be electron density reduction between MEDE and EIA (equatorial ionization anomaly). In this study, the TEC (total electronic content) of GIMs (global ionospheric maps) are used to stand for the electron density. The strength (=MEDE/TEDT) and the appearing frequency of the MEDE in various local times, seasons, longitudes, and solar activities are reported and discussed.
