We present three-dimensional global simulations of Titan's ionosphere, using the Titan Global Ionosphere-Thermosphere Model (T-GITM) (Bell et al. [2010a, 2010b]). We investigate the impact of including ion winds calculated by a global MHD model (Ma et al. [2006, 2007, 2009]) and the heavy ions cascading into Titan's upper atmosphere, as simulated by a hybrid model (Sillanpaa et al. [2006, 2007, 2011]). We compare our simulations for the ion densities to recently updated Ion-Neutral Mass Spectrometer (INMS) measurements (Mandt et al. [2011]). We discuss where the 3-D simulations reproduce the INMS major ion data well, and where more work is required. In particular, we investigate the need for added ion-neutral chemical pathways, as suggested by the recent work of Westlake et al. [2011] on the major ion species (HCNH+ and C2H5+). Our primary goal is to highlight our current state of global modeling and to point out the current challenges to fully understanding current ionosphere measurements.
