With XMM-Newton completing five years in orbit, it was very appropriate to hold a meeting of the "European Photon Imaging Counter (EPIC) Team and Friends" in the beautiful setting of the Max-Planck Society's Ringberg Castle, to review the scientific archievments of the EPIC instruments on-board XMM-Newton. The external measures of the success of these instruments are reflected in over 1000 published refereed papers worldwide. In these proceedings one can find examples of the best science, now being carried out with EPIC, ranging from normal stars to the very distant quasars and deep fields.
