Tidal ratios outside and inside the Bay of Fundy/Gulf of Maine system
fall into two distinct groups. The period of the free mode oscillation
in the bay is 13.3 h, and this is forced by the lunar M2 tide
of the North Atlantic to produce the unusually high tides recorded in
the area.
