The pancake-like shields observed in the plains of the Ares Valles region of Mars are flat-topped circular structures a few km in diameter having low topographic relief relative to the surrounding plains. Stereo images of 12 such structures were obtained using photoclinometry. The present analysis of these images suggests that they occurred after the major regional flood event.
