In interpreting the characteristics of delayed echo signals (DES) observed since the end of the 1920s, scientists have usually examined the effect of physical delay mechanisms. They have assumed large signal propagation paths in the case of reflection in space (e.g., from the moon, clusters of meteor bodies, ionized particles), multiple oscillations in ionospheric or magnetospehric resonators, round-the-world radio waveguides, delay transformation into plasma waves, etc. The present paper examines variants of the relay interpretation for series of radio signals with rapidly varying multiple-second delays. Particular attention is given to the Norway-Holland (1928) series of DES observations.
