A database is presented which includes 1000 nights of wind data for approximately one solar cycle of radio and UV/EUV flux variation. Long-term averages of Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) observations of the nocturnal OI (1D) emission at 630 nm are obtained from the F-region thermosphere at a high latitude site. The data are classified according to the 3-h global K sub p index, a measure of the disturbance of the geomagnetic field from magnetometers. The data demonstrate an important correlation between the EUV fluxes and the effect of geomagnetic conditions in the auroral oval on thermospheric neutral winds. Specific relationships are described between levels of geomagnetic activity and the presence of winds. It is shown that K sub p cannot adequately describe momentum and energy coupling from the solar wind to the upper thermosphere.
