The phase variations of the line profiles of five chemically peculiar stars are investigated using the inverse problem method. The results indicate that the profiles have not been perturbed by orbital motion which occurs with a secondary-component mass of greater than 0.3 solar mass. It is noted that the more massive component can transform into either a neutron star or a white dwarf.
