Interaction of light with rough or porous interstellar grains is studied. Scattering diagrams and polarization curves are presented for several roughness and porosity rates. Obsidian and glassy carbon particles are considered for size parameters either much smaller than or of the same order as the wavelength of the incident light. In the last case scattering diagrams and polarization curves are drastically affected by roughness and porosity. Implications on the structure of some reflection nebulae are discussed. Also, the results suggest the existence of interstellar grains larger than usually accepted.
