The relationship of the precipitations of energetic electrons and protons (with energies exceeding 30 keV) with field-aligned currents and the position of the westward electrojet during an active substorm phase is investigated on the basis of Cosmos-426, Cosmos-900, and Intercosmos-17 data. It is found that the maximum fluxes of the energetic electrons precipitate into the outflowing-current region, while the maximum proton fluxes precipitate primarily into the inflowing-current region. During an active substorm phase, the maximum fluxes of energetic electrons are detected at the leading edge of the westward electrojet.
