The effect of dissipation on rotational discontinuities is investigated. Starting with a rotational discontinuity and applying resistivity and viscosity, the resulting evolution of the system is followed by numerically integrating in time the viscous MHD equations. It is shown that, when dissipation processes are included in the system, rotational discontinuities are not stable. With dissipation, rotational discontinuities evolve to intermediate shocks of the type in which shock frame fluid velocities are subfast, super-Alfven, and superslow ahead; and subfast, sub-Alfven, and superslow behind the shock. However, if the dissipation is small, the difference between the intermediate shock and the rotational discontinuity is also small.
