The strain in space caused by gravitational radiation passing the solar system is extremely small, about 10-21. Experimental work has been going on for more than 20 years to develop antennas with sufficiently high sensitivities to detect such weak signals. The two most investigated possibilities - bar detectors and beam detectors - are described, and the present state of the art and future prospects are outlined.
