Theoretical and satellite data on charged particles and electric currents are used to study magnetotail phenomena. Using a guiding center theory, it is shown that in the region where the magnetic field is small or equal to zero the circular motion becomes an 'eight'-shaped motion and the magnetic moment is equivalent to two opposite magnetic moments. An analytical trajectory of particle motion in the neutral sheet magnetic field is obtained. The plasma current sheet was analyzed using a solution of a time-independent Vlasov equation, and an expression is derived for a three-dimensional function of a field-aligned current. Particle and magnetic field data obtained by IMP-7, IMP-8, and ISEE-1 are discussed.
