We searched for the CS J=2-1 emission towards 30 southern H_2O and OH masers with the SEST radio telescope (29 H2O and H2O/OH masers and 1 OH maser). We detected and mapped 24 CS emitting regions associated probably with 27 H_2O masers. The C34S J=2-1 and CO J=1-0 lines were also observed at the grid positions closest to the CS peaks. Here we present the CS maps and the spectra at the peak positions along with the CO and C34S spectra. We derive the C34S column densities in the LTE approximation and discuss briefly the spatial and kinematic structure of the sources. The association with the IRAS point sources and small scale structure sources is examined. We estimate the kinematic distances to the cores and derive their sizes, masses and mean densities. The velocity differences between the masers and CS cores are analyzed. The CO and CS spectra towards several sources demonstrate deep absorption features. We argue that they can be due to extended low excitation foreground cloud(s). (4 data files).
