Missions to Mars are reviewed, including the Mars Observer, the Phobos mission, and proposals for a manned mission. The Phobos spacecraft, mission, landers, and experiments are examined. The possibility of a cooperative mission between the U.S. and the USSR is considered. Problems which must be addressed to make a manned mission to Mars are discussed, including protection from solar radiation and the possible use of Phobos and Deimos as staging posts.
