The UV photolysis of dimethylcadmium (Me2Cd) and diethyltelluride (Et2Te) were investigated using high pressure mercury arc lamps. Metallic Cd films were deposited onto gallium arsenide, silicon and sapphire substrates in order to investigate nucleation mechanisms and film growth models. Cadmium telluride epitaxial layers were grown onto (100) gallium arsenide substrates both with and without UV illumination. Film quality and structure were studied using transmission electron microscopy, x ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry.
