Active Optics: Telescopes
Scientific paper
The general theory and the principal function of the active optics applied in modern astronomical optical telescopes are described and reviewed. Based on the authors' recent ten years work and experiences in the both thin mirror active optical technology and the segmented mirror active optical technology, the main parts of the active optical system, such as the wave front sensor, the wave front fit, the calibration of the correct forces, the co-surface and the co-focus methods, are described. The active optical system of the Large Sky Area Multi-object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST), for which both the thin mirror and the segmented mirror active optical technologies are applied, is also briefly presented.
