The activity of the terrestrial magnetosheath is dominated by large-amplitude wave activity. CLUSTER provides us with a unique possibility to study the properties of these waves. Using CLUSTER as a wave telescope we analyze in detail wave propagation directions and wave numbers for different frequency bands. Our statistical analysis covers magnetosheath regions differing in local-time, radial distance to the magnetopause, and latitude. We find that in the s/c frame of reference wave propagation directions are mainly towards the Earth, that is most of the observed wave structures are convected together with the solar wind. To account for the effects of the solar wind convection, we use information of the velocities from the CIS instrument to correct the Doppler shift.
