One use to which Magsat data can be put is to test the various models of auroral current flow which have been generated in the past. To do this, predictions of the perturbation magnetic field can be calculated from a current model, and these can be critically examined in light of the Magsat data. In this progress report, current models derived from the electric field models of Heppner (1977) and the conductivity models of Wallis and Budzinski (1981) are used to predict the field at Magsat orbit. Some features of the predictions are compared with Magsat data.
