Scientific paper

The paper examines the characteristics of the motion of particles in a dipole magnetic field near the point of particle production in the upper layers of the atmosphere as a function of the initial conditions: the pitch angle and the geomagnetic coordinates of the starting point. It is found that the specular points of energetic particles rise during the longitudinal drift of these particles owing to the noncoincidence of the magnetic-dipole center with the earth's center. Approximate expressions are obtained for the quantity of material that a particle passes through from the starting point to the atmospheric boundary in the process of its escape into space. The generation of secondary cosmic rays in the course of this escape is considered.
