The Primordial Origin Theory of the Galactic Magnetic Field is described. We then discuss simplified models, progressively more realistic, for the evolution of an initially constant field: an analytic approximation, a one-dimensional numerical simulation and a two dimensional simulation; finally we present preliminary results of a two dimensional simulation in which the initial field has gradients across the galaxy. For a wide range of initial conditions a field of {~}mu Gauss is found in accordance with observations. The field, however, reverses with radius on a scale ~100 pc. With appropriate initial gradients, however, a mean field on the large scale is nevertheless possible. We conclude with a discussion of the possible effects on this picture of a more realistic treatment which includes the local motions of the gas.
