A nova in the Large Magellanic Cloud (Dorado) was discovered by William Liller on 2009 February 05.067 UT at magnitude 10.6 (Tech Pan photograph, unfiltered). Spectroscopy by Howard Bond showed a profile consistent with a nova. The close proximity of Nova LMC 2009 to the position of Nova LMC 1971 suggests that both events originate from the same progenitor, a possibility not yet confirmed. Observations should be submitted to the AAVSO International Database as N LMC 09.
