THE principal biochemical defect associated with Parkinsonism is a
marked decrease in the dopamine and serotonin content of the
brain1. L-Dopa, a precursor of dopamine, has been found to
help patients suffering from this disease, presumably by increasing the
concentration of dopamine in the brain2.
