The calculation of 550-km x 550-km mean gravity anomalies and 550-km x 550-km mean geoid heights is discussed. The estimation procedure uses linear regression to calculate 110-km x 110-km estimates from the given observations (1° x 1° mean gravity anomalies and point values for geoid height), autocovariance analysis (leastsquares collocation) to calculate estimates in unobserved 110-km x 110-km areas, and weighted linear regression to obtain 550-km x 550-km means. An analytical covariance function is used in the autocovariance analysis for the signal covariance function, and the error covariance function is estimated from the data. Estimates of 1504 mean gravity anomalies and 1218 mean geoid heights are obtained out of the total of 1654 blocks worldwide.
