Scientific paper

An algorithm for accurate measurements of radial velocities from stellar spectra is presented. It may be used for many kinds of spectroscopic data; here the author considers only the case of spectrographic plates recorded by means of a digitalized microdensitometer. Line centers are determined by a least square fit, after a special treatment consisting of an apodized Fourier transform smoothing for which a criterion is given.
