This paper reports an exact solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations.
This solution has at the origin of the spatial coordinates a singularity
of the Reissner-Nordström type. Far outside, it is a uniform
electric field embedded into a Melvin metric. The entire solution is
static, but an acceleration with the classical value qE/m can be shown.
