Scientific paper

Selected topics pertaining to stellar and heliometric astrometry and astrometric binaries are discussed. Papers are presented on the Hipparcos project, the determination of double-star orbits, close triple-star systems, and the luminosity distribution function for visual binary stars. Consideration is also given to the frequency of binaries with a degenerate component, trapezium-type multiple systems, the accuracy of close binary-mass determinations from parallaxes, and the heliometer principle and some modern applications.
