Moon: Images, Moon Surface: Image Reconstruction

Scientific paper

The authors give examples of digital processing of color-separated and polarized photographs of the Moon based on cluster analysis of two-dimensional albedo-color and albedo-polarization degree skytograms. They identify optically typical regions of the lunar surface and generate their half-tone images. The optical parameters are used to study the representativeness of seven landing sites (Apollo-12, -14, Surveyor-6, -7, and Luna-9, -13, -17) over the entire western portion of the lunar disk. This representativeness is 17% or less for any pair of optical dependencies. The authors discuss the geochemical interpretation of optical parameters.
