Solar Flares: Magnetohydrodynamics

Scientific paper

The nonlinear magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) in solar flares is considered using two dimensional numerical simulations. The results are analyzed based on the bifurcation theory of the linear force-free field (Kusano, et al. (1995). The simulation results show that a transition from a loop type configuration into an island type configuration indeed takes place as the bifurcation theory predicted. The dependence of the transition dynamics on the resistivity is considered in detail.
