A proton and alpha-particle spectrometer employing two semiconductor
detectors and a plastic scintillator is discussed. Some preliminary data
on the entry of protons and alpha-particles into the magnetospheric
polar caps during the solar flare of September 19 through 22, 1977 are
examined.
