Drift results obtained with the Christchurch meteor radar are presented for a nine day observing period in the winter of 1977. These reveal the dominance of the solar semi-diurnal tide, whose phase variation with altitude suggests long vertical wavelength propagating modes. The solar diurnal tidal component exhibits irregular phase behavior and has a magnitude that is typically half that of the semi-diurnal component. Prevailing winds are dominated by the zonal component, with the largest eastward flow at lower altitudes.
