A new mathematical description of how ring particles orbiting a planet behave as they nudge neighboring particles has been developed which promises to be useful for developing and testing explanations of the bizarre appearance of Saturn's rings. The ring particles are assumed to be ice balls, not snowballs, which act like molecules of a gas, a liquid, and perhaps even a solid. The model has successfully predicted the existence and characteristics of the spiral density wave in the A ring. The model is compared with the Krook model, and the significance of these models for the age of Saturn's rings is discussed.
