The internal and external parts of the geomagnetic acceleration (jerk) phenomenon of 1970 and the geomagnetic impulse of 1977-1981 were studied using all-day international quiet day and selected quiet-day annual mean values from two observatories (Nurmijarvi and Sodankyla) in northern Europe. It is shown that the external part in the jerk signal in the Y component of the North Europe geomagnetic field was small. Correlations between magnetic field and solar activity indices and jerk signals are also briefly discussed.
