A collaboration of 14 groups is currently building a 17 m diameter imaging Cherenkov telescope, dubbed MAGIC telescope. Most of the components are already built or are shortly before completion. The telescope will be installed on the Canary island La Palma at the Roque de los Muchachos. A technical progress report with emphasis on the latest developments will be given. In addition, perspectives for the phase II will be presented.
