The spallative production of light elements by cosmic rays is re-evaluated in the light of recent measurements and theoretical developments. We investigate the possible role of large fluxes of particles in the range 10-30 MeV/n, as suggested by the measurement of the 11 B/10 B, 6 Li/9 Be and B/Be abundance ratios. The limitations imposed by the global energetics, the power and the consequent heating and ionization of the interstellar medium are considered.
