From measurements of the absorption cross section of protons on air
nuclei the proton-proton total cross section is deduced from the Glauber
calculation. It is found that until present extensive air-shower
techniques are improved, the asymptotic energy behavior of the
nucleon-nucleon total cross-section is not resolved.
