The production and detection of 'invisible' axions during the propagation of a laser beam orthogonal to a constant magnetic field under laboratory conditions are investigated theoretically. Assuming an axion mass of about 10 microeV, it is concluded that a 1-ms laser pulse of flux density 100 TW/sq cm propagating in a magnetic field of about 100 kG could produce a pulsating axion beam with transverse cross section 10-100 microns and energy current density about 10,000 times that predicted for solar axions. Techniques for improving the efficiency of axion production and the S/N of proposed EM axion detectors are suggested.
