Predictions are presented which delineate the limits of the path of totality and describe the central-line circumstances for the 1979 solar eclipse. Local circumstances for 70 cities in Canada and the United States are included, and weather prospects are investigated. The general characteristics of this eclipse are discussed, and an examination of the history of the saros family puts this eclipse into perspective.
