Scientific paper

Analytical results derived during the development of the PADE program are presented. Near field on-axis diffraction from a circular aperture is analyzed by integrating Kirchhoff's formula, the boundary wave formulation, and the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld theory. Far field on-axis diffraction from obliquely illuminated apertures is described using the angular spectrum approach. Transmission functions and diffracted fields for rectangular, circular, and rotated square apertures are presented.
