Maps of millimeter molecular line emission clearly show that molecular clouds have a complex clumpy spatial structure. Recent observations of the structure and energetics of these clouds, as well as possible physical models, such as the effects of radiative and mass outflows from embedded stars, are discussed. The mass spectrum and stability of the clumps is discussed, as well as what might be in between the clumps. The emphasis of the discussion is on clouds in the vicinity of regions of active OB star formation. The possibility that the small, high density condensations in cloud cores are protostars discussed and the role of molecular spectroscopy in studying them is considered. The discovery and possible explanations of the warm molecular gas near the surfaces of these molecular clouds is discussed.
