Mg-sulfates in regolith on Mars can be desiccated rapidly but hydrate
slowly. Current preservation near-surface of Mg-hydrates with 7 or 11
waters of hydration may extend to lower latitudes in the northern
hemisphere than in the southern hemisphere.
