We apply the strong coupling expansion of lattice QCD to derive a multiple-string-flip expansion for hadronic collisions. This expansion is exactly of the type used in the phenomenological string model VENUS. The analogy supports one basic concept of VENUS, namely using strings rather than gluons as fundamental objects.
