Spectral achromatic coatings have a significant interest as optical components. Their design can be obtained by different methods. A new concept is proposed, based on the realization of an antireflective coating on which only one dielectric subsequent λ/4 layer is deposited. The reflectance depends solely on the index of the latter layer. A 50/50 achromatic beamsplitter is obtained when its index is 2.41. Some examples of application are given.
