Cross-correlation studies between solar wind parameters and electron densities in the auroral ionosphere measured by EISCAT show that different regions in the ionosphere respond differently to solar wind parameter changes. The strongest correlation was found for the densities in the upper ionosphere and the solar wind parameter V x Bs which is related to the magnetospheric electric field.
