The geomagnetic storm observed at L'Aquila on March 13, 1989 was by far the strongest event detected since the Geomagnetic Observatory foundation (1958). An analysis of this event is provided, with particular attention given to the micropulsation activity which accompanied the different phases of this storm. The main phase decrease of the H component provided huge field variations of the order of 600 nT, while spectacular micropulsation events were observed both in low frequency (T about 3 min, about 50 nT) and high frequency (T about 3.5 s, about 2 nT) bands.
