Responding to the success of the RAS's grants programme for IYA2009, the Council of the Society extended it into 2009 and 15 August 2009 is the final deadline for these applications.
On 19 May, Friends of the RAS enjoyed a special screening at Burlington House of a film about the naming of Pluto, once the ninth planet in the solar system, now one of the new class of dwarf planets.
