We propose to conduct a survey for carbon chain molecules within hot molecular cores, in order to test models we have constructed to explain the production of cyanopolyynes in such environments. In particular, we wish to determine whether the relative abundance of different species in this family of molecules may be used to provide a chemical clock for the evolutionary state of the core. This project has been made possible by the combination of the 8 GHz wide UNSW-MOPS spectrometer, combined with the new 7mm band receiver at Mopra.
