Detectors: Muons, Neutrinos: Oscillations

Scientific paper

The CHORUS experiment searches for νμ→ντ oscillation in the CERN wide-band neutrino beam. The detector comprises two sets of 800 kg nuclear emulsion targets followed by electronic detectors. The experiment has been taking data from 1994 through 1997. In a sample of 31423 events with a leading muon and 4934 muonless neutrino interactions, no charged-current interactions induced by ντ were found. For large Δmμτ2 values this corresponds to a limit on the mixing angle of sin22θμτ < 2.3×10-3 at 90% CL, thus improving the previous best result.
