Measurements by several physical methods, including metallographic techniques, electron microprobe analysis, Moessbauer spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction, are reported which show that the bulk of the Ni-rich (35 percent) Santa Catharina meteorite consists of the Fe-Ni ordered phase with Ll0 superstructure. The presence of a smaller amount of another ferromagnetic Fe-Ni phase, probably with disordered structure, is shown. The average composition of the meteorite is the same as that in which Fe-Ni alloys show structural and magnetic Invar anomalies. The metal phases of the meteorite behave similarly to electron-irradiated Invar alloys of the same Fe-Ni composition.
